Sinks and Faucets

bronze sinkKitchen sinks can be made of several different materials: stainless steel, enamel-coated cast iron, solid surfaces and composites.

  1. Stainless steel is often the best choice for people who need a highly durable sink. They can be undermounted into a granite, stone or solid-surface countertop, and set into other countertop materials. Lower-gauge stainless steel makes for a better quality sink.
  2. Enamel-coated cast ironis a traditional look that is still beautiful today. Available in a wide variety of colors, enamel sinks are beautiful, but can scratch and wear over time.
  3. Solid surface sinks make cleanup a breeze. This type of sink is an integral part of the solid surface countertop. Minor scratches can be buffed out of a solid surface sink, but they can chip or be damaged by hot pots, so a little care is needed if you choose this option.
  4. Composite sinks are a newer choice and can be the most affordable type of sink available. Often made of polyester/acrylic, they can be somewhat less durable than sinks made of other materials.

Also very popular today is a smaller “prep sink,” which is great for a kitchen for more than one cook. Vegetable and fruit washing can take place in the prep sink, while pots, pans, and dishes are washed in the larger single or double sink.

There are many different styles of kitchen faucets available. Your kitchen designer can help you find the style that best suits your kitchen.

Many people prefer single-lever faucets in the kitchen for ease of one-handed use. Faucets for the kitchen can be finished in chrome, polished nickel, brushed nickel, bronze, or pewter. Other items to consider including in your sink are: a spray arm for filling pots with water or rinsing the sink, a garbage disposal, and a hot water dispenser.
